Finished Craft table & fabric covered bulletin/cork board tutorial...

First thing I have to share is my crafting table.  The measurements are 6ft 8 inches long by 31 inches high.  The top is an old solid door our son got from someone free & it is heavy!  The cabinet underneath is from the Restore, with a ticket price of $40, but got it for $10.  My hubby built the whole cabinet & top in so it's not going anywhere!  There is a hole in the door where the doorknob was & will now be a perfect place to tuck in cords.

I am thrilled with my crafting table/desk!  I can't wait to use it!

I decided to put fabric on my bulletin board.  I love the toile & had originally wanted to make curtains with it but didn't have enough, so I decided to use part of it for this.  I'm sure everyone knows how to cover a bulletin/cork board, but thought I'd tell you how I did it.

First, I painted the frame with a white satin spray paint.  I painted 3 coats with drying time of about 15 minutes between.  It was a warm day and I did this outside...safety first!  Then I measured the inside of the framed area where the cork is and added about 3/8 inch on all sides and cut the fabric that size.  (You can do this previously to painting & have the fabric ready.)  I used some spray adhesive that I had on hand and liberally sprayed the fabric and let it set up for 5 minutes.  It is important to do this in a well ventilated area because of the fumes.
Then I laid the fabric down on the cork, being careful to have each side overlapping just 3/8 inch; I eyeballed this.  After getting it in place, I pressed the fabric down, smoothing as I went along.
When that was adhered well, I then took a plastic tool with a flat edge and tucked in the edges of the fabric into the side of the frame.  There should be plenty of space to do this.  I pressed down the edge as I tucked, going around the perimeter.  You may want to double check to make sure that it is all laying flat.
 Then, you decide on what kind of hanger you want & place that on the back.  My bulletin board is being screwed into the wall for my use.  The finished bulletin board...If I decide to decorate it, I will share that later.  I need to unpack some things before I can think about that; all the goodies I'd use are still in boxes!
 My studio is coming along and I will be sharing more soon.  Enjoy the last days of June!  I have linked this post to the Home Decor & Organizing Link Party #8; the 1st link party I've participated in!  Check it out on my sidebar...

Craft Room, Studio, Workshop...

Just a quick note:  I am recovering from my back surgery nicely.  It feels as though I do take two steps forward and one step back, but that is usually how recovery goes.  I am thankful for signs that the surgery worked & relief from many symptoms.  My hubby & I are going to the coast for our anniversary Friday for a couple of days.  It is about 1 1/2 hrs from here & I will take it easy.  If I need to lie down I will.  Walking is good & it will be nice to check out our favorite antique store.  It will be nice to get away.

On to other things...

I have been thinking about my craft room a lot lately.  My dear hubby has been working hard to build a work desk for me and putting shelves in for all my stuff.  I want it to look pretty, but of course, be functional.  My hubby is really concentrating on the later.  LOL!  That is fine, but I will add pretty touches too!  Along with the setting up of my space, I have been thinking  about what my craft room means to me.  I have always called it my "craft room".  It seems to be an outdated term; studio is preferable & sounds so chic.  I don't feel like I'm a chic person & have shied away from calling my crafting space a studio.  But maybe the time to change is now.  I have moved into a new home with a room in the house for my crafting, albeit shared with the office, but that is ok.  I get a whole walk in closet with shelves for all my stuff.  In our previous house, I used to be in a room my hubby made in the garage.  It was hot or cold depending on the weather, which really deterred me.  I ended up moving scrapbooking stuff into the office...my hubby even got me a huge desk to use.  The office, which had been a room set up for my hubby with his large coke collection, ended up being taken over by me.  Even more crafting found it's way into the dining room when it was holiday crunch time; you all know what that is!  This time, it is a planned space...office/craft room.  My hubby's coke collection is in the family room in nice glass front cabinets & the office desk is already shabby chic style which fits into my decorating theme for my craft room.  Anyway,  I thinking it is time to leave my craft room behind and make it a studio.  I looked up studio in the thesaursus & this is what it said:
Main Entry: studio
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: workroom (yep it is!)
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Concept: Workshop.
Category: 1. Simple voluntary action (sometimes simple, sometimes not!)
Synonyms:
-nouns
workshop, workhouse; manufactory, mill, factory (I used to make 50 of each item & felt like I was working in a factory); cabinet, studio; bureau, atelier., hive, hive of industry (is that where busy as a bee comes from?); nursery; hothouse (hmmm...my last craft room??!!), hotbed; kitchen (yep, I've crafted in  my kitchen!); mint, forge, loom; dock, dockyard; alveary (huh?); armory; laboratory (I have concocted some dooseys!!); beehive, bindery, forcing pit, nailery, usine, slip, yard, wharf; foundry; furnace; vineyard., crucible, alembic, caldron, matrix. (whew!)
Well, needless to say, studio sounds a heck of a lot better than some of these!  So I am moving into the popular crowd and having a studio instead of a craft room.  Do you think I will create any prettier items, be inspired in a new way, or just have a change in attitude with a studio??  Hmmmm....I guess we will see!  Maybe I'll become chic....well, maybe not!
Have an inspiring, creative day in your space, be it a craft room, studio, or just the kitchen table.  I'll be sharing some pics of my studio soon...
Blessings,
Cindy
Surgery went well; Thankful for family, friends, & prayers...
Hello Dear Blogging Friends~
Forgive me if I say anything weird; you know I'm on drugs strong pain pills!! LOL! I wanted to do a quick update on my surgery.  Everything went wonderfully and I feel relief from much of my back & leg pain and my numbness is slowly subsiding already in my leg & foot.  I am actually more comfortable in my recliner than my bed, so I can get up & down by myself.  I'm taking lots of little walks in my house & doing very well.  My hubby is taking good care of me and God has been watching over me.  I can really feel all the prayers touching me inside & out.  Thank you so much for praying & caring...
Blessings,
Cindy
I'm off to surgery tomorrow...
I have been without internet since mid-day  yesterday (yikes) and wanted to get this posted then but that is how it goes...
I am having back surgery tomorrow at 12:30pm.  I am not looking forward to the recovery which consists of mostly laying down or standing, with lots of walks in between.  Sitting will be uncomfortable which seems a "for sure" fact!!  Walking will be a progression from a couple of hours post-op, walking around the house, to short walks outside leading to longer walks, etc...  I will also be limited on my movement; no bending, twisting, or lifting.  Sounds fun doesn't it??  LOL!  This is an out patient procedure so I should be home by tomorrow afternoon or evening...Ugh!!
I would appreciate love any prayers sent up on my behalf.  I am a little anxious nervous but I know that God is watching over me.  I will write a post as soon as I am able.  Thanks so much! *hugs*
Blessings,
Cindy
Thanks to Kathy at Creative Home Expressions & a sneak peek...
I received my giveaway goodies from Kathy at Creative Home Expressions yesterday.  She sent me two wonderful items she had made.  First was a really pretty table runner made from muslin and rows of ruffles; just love it!  The only hard thing to decide is where to put it; I have several spots where it would look great.  I'll probably move it around from place to place because it would work in all my rooms due to the neutral fabric...so cute! I am a true table runner fan so am thrilled to add Kathy's to my collection!
Then the 2nd cutie is a clip~it.  It is a really neat idea & I will enjoy it on my desk as soon as I get that set up, in my office/craft room.  I'm always needing a place to put a note or message.  I know that I will enjoy both items for a long time to come.
Thank you so much Kathy for being part of the Cottage Charm giveaway.  I am thrilled to win your pretties!  Here's Kathy's blog:   http://creativehomeexpressions.blogspot.com/
I'm finally taking some pictures of our new home and flowers in our back yard.  I will be sharing some soon.  Here's a sneak peek...
Thanks to Brenda at Shabby Cats and Roses!
Cottage Charm Giveaway in May concluded with lots of neat blogs participating.  I was overwhelmed to win three of the giveaways!  I  received my items from Brenda at Shabby Cats and Roses on Friday.  What a treat!  The packing materials were all in pink, from the paper filler, to the bubble wrap, and the package with the pink polka dot tissue paper!!  What fun!  Brenda is a very talented lady to be sure.  The towels are absolutely exquisite; the quality & the handiwork.  Pictures do not do justice to them.  I also received a beautiful teapot that is so dainty, along with tea wrapped up so pretty.  The last but not least item was the napkin holder all pinked up.  I will enjoy each & every goodie I won from Brenda.
